Whats Up With These Dogs???

And Whats up with the messed up store hours???

Bootuious T. Dog              Tristan

              aka Bootu

            Mahoney and Tristan

Well let me tell you a little story...

When I (Amy) was in college my brother gifted me with a beautiful puppy named Boone. Boone and I were bestest friends for an amazing 16 years. Dingo (not pictured) joined us as a companion to Boone. These guys were my family and teachers for many years. Prior to Boones death, I had two dreams of Boone dying. In the second of these dreams I was introduced to Bootu. I found him shortly after Boones death-exactly as I had seen him in my dream.

When Dingo died I was not warned by any dreams. As I prepared to head out to Mingo Park to mourn her, and honor her passing- I heard her saying to me that I needed to get another dog. She told me he was for my husband and Bootu- that neither of them would do well without this new dog. I wanted to give her the time she richly deserved and was quite determined, that no they would be fine- I started "seeing" this image of a large black head with a red rough accompanied by this insistent "voice" telling me this was the next dog. I thought to myself- this dog doesn't exist- so I felt quite safe in heading out to the Humane Society  confident in the fact I would not find any such dog... Well there was Tristan. He has been with my family for 5 years. Now that you have the background...

Bootu was the best teacher I have ever had. He has been with me through many very difficult trials. He saw me through with dignity and calm and wisdom that had depths I could only imagine. He was a gentle giant. There was one time when during play with another dog- the other dog became cranky and bit Bootu. Bootu spent the next half hour apologizing. He was the injured one yet he was turning himself inside out trying to apologize. I always joked that you could run this dog over with a truck- if he thought it made you happy he would have you back up over him.

I started having dreams of Bootu's death a couple months ago. in the second dream- I was introduced to Mahoney.

Bootu had surgery early in March for a fast growing tumor on his side. From the day of his surgery (Tuesday) to that following Friday, Bootu's cancer had metastasized to his lungs. I got the results of his biopsy on that Saturday, and we realized that it had truly metastasized. I spent Saturday evening trying to find someone to put him to sleep. Due to the fact it was Easter weekend- I had no luck. I spent Saturday into Sunday trying to pray him on- I was unable. I had promised him a year ago that I would have him put to sleep when the time came. He was holding me to my promise. I was able to ease him on with the kind help of a Vet from Met-Vet West. This occurred Easter Sunday. Bootu and I then took the last ride in my van together to Peaceful Pastures in Washington Co. This is a crematory and pet/human cemetery. It is a beautiful place. The owners met me out there Easter Sunday to receive Bootu and take over his care. They were compassionate, patient and beyond kind with me. With Bootu- they were gentle and respectful- as if he were their own.

Because Bootu showed me what appeared to be a breed dog- I started the search as we all sat together during Bootu's convalescence. I went to Petfinders.com and looked through hundreds of photos and finally found her. Her name is Mahoney. She has brought joy to my husband and to my Tristan- both of whom suffered terribly Bootu's death. We all have deep sadness still with our loss- and will for some time, I imagine. Mahoney romps in and we are able to smile through our tears.

Tristan has emerged as my teacher at this time- patience and strength are the current lessons. With Bootu's referral I am positive Mahoney will be a fine teacher as well.

As my sister, Nancy, so aptly put it upon being told of his passing- He was a grand dog...

Yes he was...

So now you have the reasoning for the strange hours. They will continue to be a bit weird for training Mahoney but I wont be absent so much. I apologize for the scheduling inconvenience but I do not apologize for giving my family my time.
